SINKER CYPRESS
Sinker Cypress, an old growth Yellow Bald Cypress found on river beds and deltas in the southeastern United States is a fantastic wood for interior siding. The wide range of colors is a result of the log being buried in the mineral rich silt for decades or even centuries.
Species
The grain on Sinker Cypress is basically the same as todays Yellow Bald Cypress, with tighter grain now and then. It tends to be clear, being cut from large old growth Yellow Bald Cypress .
Color:
The most amazing characteristic of Sinker Cypress is it's color. The minerals in the river bed create a wild variety of intense color ranging from green to red to yellow. The color, depends on where the log was placed in the river. The lighter tones are parts of the tree that weren't buried in the river bed, therefore have a color similar to Yellow Bald Cypress, just a little darker. The greens and reds the part of the tree buried in the river bed, the minerals from the muck seeped into the tree, and painted it.
Sinker Cypress is lightweight, sands easily, and mills beautifully. We recommend the following uses for Sinker Cypress:
- T/g Wood Cladding
- Outdoor Furniture
- Cabinets
- Soffits
Fun facts about Sinker Cypress:
As a reclaimed wood, architects and designers can earn LEED points for using it.
